Activating a SYNC Services Account
HOW TO USE SYNC – Vehicles are manufactured or updated with Traffic, Directions, and Information to be eligible for the services. Customers must activate the services online in their SYNC Owner account and then connect to them in the vehicle.
Customers can activate the services online by registering at syncmyride.com.
Customers can connect to the services by pressing the VOICE button in their vehicle and then saying “Service” as the voice command.
Customers who wish to add Traffic, Directions, and Information to their vehicle or second owners can buy a subscription at Syncmyride.com and follow the instructions to activate the services.
Basic Steps
- Verify Vehicle information: Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), and then give the vehicle a name using the provided fields. To continue, click on “Next.”
- Radio and Steering Wheel: Select “Select” for the radio and steering wheels of your vehicle.
- Profile Information Enter all Owner and Login Information in the provided fields. Click “Next” to proceed.
- Please enter your mobile number and confirm it in the fields. To continue, click “Next.”
- Terms and Conditions: Please read the Terms & Conditions before clicking “Accept” to activate your account.
- From Syncmyride.com, click on “Create Your SyNC Owner Account.”
SYNC PHONE FEATURES
Pairing with a Bluetooth(r),-Enabled Smartphone
Keep in mind the distinction between connected and pairing as we move through these demonstrations.
Paring is activating the partnership between the Bluetooth-enabled phone and SYNC. The pairing can be done only once. After that, the SYNC system will be able to connect to the Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone. You can pair up to 12 Bluetooth phones with SYNC.
Connected indicates that the partnership is active, and SYNC can communicate wirelessly to the phone. Let’s begin with Bluetooth-enabled phones. Next, we’ll discuss the devices that can play digital music.
Connect a USB Music Storage Device
Connecting a USB Music Storage Device
Users can use the USB port to plug in and play music from flash drives or other digital devices via voice commands or using the MENU.
- Connect the USB port to the device.
- Press AUX until SYNC appears.
- To enter the MEDIA MENU, press MENU. It will be displayed briefly.
- Scroll down until the radio display shows SELECT USB. To confirm your selection, press OK.
- Scroll down until SYNC USB appears on the radio display. To confirm your selection, press OK.
- To confirm, the radio display will flash USB CHOSEN. The music will now start to play.
- If your music is stored on a thumb drive in MP3 playlist format, you can use voice commands as described in the instructions for digital players, “How to Use Voice Commands with a USB Digital Media Player.”
How to Connect a USB Digital Media Player
- Make sure that your vehicle’s ignition and radio are turned on.
- Connect the device to the USB port. For exact location, refer to the Owner’s Guide.
- NOTE If your digital media player has an on/off switch, make sure that it is ON.
- Press [Face ICON] to hear VOICE
- If your digital media player has many media files, INDEXING might appear on the radio display. Once the indexing process has been completed, you can access your digital media player media content using voice commands.
- If asked, respond “USB.”
- { Play music by saying any of the following commands: “Play All,” Play Artist,” “Play Album,” “You can play music by saying the following commands: Play All, Play Artist,” Play Album,”;au Genre,” ‘Play Playlist’or ‘Play Track.
NOTE: To get more options, press [Face icon] or VOICE.
Bluetooth(r) Audio Streaming
- SYNC lets users stream music from their Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and play it through the SYNC stereo system in the car.
- Ensure that you have the music playing on your paired smartphone and that Bluetooth Audio Streaming mode is enabled.
- Press AUX until SYNC appears.
- To access the MEDIA MENU, press MENU. MEDIA MENU appears briefly in the radio display. To access the PLAY MENU, press OK.
- Scroll down until the SELECT SRC button appears. To confirm, press OK.
- Scroll down until BT STEREO appears. To confirm, press OK.
- The name of the Bluetooth-enabled phone that is connected to SYNC will be displayed on the radio display. The radio display will show MEDIA STREAM.
- You can also use SEEK while music is streaming through your audio system to access previous or next tracks or pause the current song.
- Additional information can be found in the Owner’s Guide for the vehicle supplement and the documentation included with any Bluetooth-enabled media or mobile phone.
Bluetooth voice-command operation using Bluetooth
- To activate voice recognition, press [face ICON] and VOICE. Wait for the tone to play, then press VOICE or [face ICON] to activate voice recognition.
- Speak “Bluetooth Audio” The name of the Bluetooth-enabled phone will be displayed on the radio display. The radio display will show MEDIA STREAM.
Voice Commands with a USB Digital Media Player
- Remember, you can always call “Help” to get more options.
- Turn the radio on and the ignition switch ON. Plug the player into the USB port.
- Use the controls on your steering wheel to press [Face ICON] and VOICE.
- After the prompt has ended, say “USB.”
- You can then play music by artist or album, genre, or playlist by using one of these commands: “Play Artist,” “Play Album,” “Play Genre,” or “Play Track.”
- Play similar music by saying, “Play Similar.”
- For more options, you can always call “Help.”
Enter Privacy Mode during a Hands-Free Call
- It’s simple to switch to the Privacy Mode when you’re on a call in hands-free mode and need Privacy.
- Scroll by pressing the MENU button, scrolling by pressing the SEEK buttons on the radio display until you see Privacy. Then select OK. The radio display will then show PRIVACY ON. To change options or confirm your selections, use the SEEK button. To confirm your selection, press OK again.
- To go back to Privacy Mode hands-free, press the MENU button. Scroll by pressing the SEEK key on the radio display until you see PRIVACY. Then select OK. The radio display will then show the SEEK button to change options and confirm your choices with YES or NO. To change options or confirm your selections, you’ll see the SEEK option. To confirm your selection, press OK.
Keep a call while entering/exiting.
- SYNC allows you to connect continuously while entering and exiting your vehicle.
- You don’t have to hang up if you are in the middle of a call while entering or exiting your vehicle.
- SYNC will automatically pair your Bluetooth(r), paired phone, and transfer the call to a hands-free environment.
- The system can also send the call back to you as soon as you get out of your car.
Making a call using voice commands with SYNC
- Press [Face Icon]/VOICE. The system will announce “Main Menu” by sounding a tone.
- Speak “Phone”
- When asked, say “Call” or “Dial” with the desired number.
- To delete the last spoken number, use “Delete.”
- To erase all spoken digits, say “Clear.”
- After the contact number or desired number has been confirmed by SYNC, you can say “Call” if you dial by name or “Dial” when using numbers. SYNC will try to connect to the number requested
Pairing a Bluetooth-Enabled Smartphone
This is how to pair a Bluetooth-enabled phone and download your phonebook contacts. Follow the prompts to be guided by the system.
- Make sure that the radio and ignition are turned on and that the car is in Park (P).
- To access the PHONE MENU, press the phone icon. SYNC will attempt a connection, and the radio display will indicate that there is no phone paired.
- Click OK to add devices to the radio display. (NOTE: If ADD DEVICES doesn’t appear first in the radio display, repeatedly press the UP/DOWN ARROW.
- To confirm your selection, press OK and then enter the ADD DEVICES menu.
- Press OK when FIND SYNC appears on the radio display. To put your phone in Bluetooth discovery mode, follow the instructions provided by your cellular phone’s owner guide. SYNC provides a six-digit PIN.
- Enter the six-digit PIN that SYNC has provided when you are prompted to do so on your phone’s screen.
- When the paring process succeeds, the radio display will show CONNECTED.
- SYNC will ask if you would like to make this phone your primary. Click OK if you wish this phone to become your primary.
- If your phone supports Bluetooth call-history and phonebook downloading via Bluetooth, you can now download the phonebook for SYNC. Or exit Pairing Your Phone. DO YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD YOUR PHONEBOOK will display. When YES appears, press OK.
- If you don’t want to download your call history or phonebook, there is an alternative option. Press ARROWS until NO appears and then press OK. This feature is phone-dependent. Contacts can be manually added to phones that are not compatible or unable to download the phonebook.
Switching Between Paired Phones
- To enter PHONE MENU, press the Phone ICON.
- Scroll down until SYSTEMSETTINGS appears on the radio display.
- To confirm, press OK and then enter the SYSTEM SETTINGS menu.
- Scroll down until BT DEVICE appears on the radio display.
- To confirm your selection, press OK. This will open the BT DEVICE menu.
- Scroll down until CONNECT DEVICE appears on the radio display.
- To confirm, press OK and view the list of previously paired phones.
- To connect to your phone, select the device you wish to use and then press OK.
Switching Between Paired Phones
- To enter PHONE MENU, press the Phone ICON.
- Scroll down until SYSTEMSETTINGS appears on the radio display.
- To confirm, press OK and then enter the SYSTEM SETTINGS menu.
- Scroll down until BT DEVICE appears on the radio display.
- To confirm your selection, press OK. This will open the BT DEVICE menu.
- Scroll down until CONNECT DEVICE appears on the radio display.
- To confirm, press OK and view the list of previously paired phones.
- To connect to your phone, select the device you wish to use and then press OK.
Answering and Closing a Call
- Press the phone button to answer any incoming calls.
- Press and hold the button to end calls
